process

At Ryan Nace Architecture, I believe each project is unique, shaped by its location, your needs, and the environment. My process is built on a foundation of thorough research, strong collaboration, and personalized design to ensure that each project reflects both the character of the site and your lifestyle.

INITIAL CONSULTATION

The first step is a meeting where we get to know each other and discuss your vision. This is where I dive into your project goals, lifestyle, and specific needs to ensure a deep understanding of the relationship we’ll build. As part of this stage, I’ll provide you with a questionnaire to gather more detailed insights into how you live, what’s important to you, and your design preferences. The more you share, the better I can tailor the design to suit your needs.

proposal for services

Following our initial consultation, I will send you a Proposal for Services. This outlines the scope of the work, the project timeline, and the estimated fees. This step ensures that we’re aligned on expectations and formalizes the agreement before moving forward.

SITE ANALYSIS

I thoroughly analyze the site to understand its natural attributes and ensure the design integrates seamlessly with its surroundings. Key factors include:

  • Local climate

  • Sun angles

  • Wind directions

  • Views

In addition to these environmental factors, I also consider the local council approval process and planning overlays that may affect the project. This includes understanding zoning regulations, heritage protections, and any specific conditions set by local authorities. By incorporating this crucial information early in the process, I ensure that the design is compliant with all regulatory requirements, helping to avoid delays later on.

This comprehensive site analysis helps me create designs that integrate with the environment, minimize impact, and respect the land while aligning with legal and regulatory frameworks.

DESIGN BRIEF & BUDGET DISCUSSION

After gathering your input, I’ll refine the project’s design brief. This ensures that I have a clear understanding of how you live, the spaces you need, and what’s important to you. At this stage, we’ll also discuss the project budget to make sure the design aligns with your financial expectations. This discussion allows us to make informed choices about materials, scope, and overall feasibility, ensuring that the project remains within your desired financial parameters.

Please note that the following steps in the process are dependent on the size and scope of the project. These will be individually priced and included as part of the Proposal for Services to ensure clarity and transparency.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN

With your input in mind, I’ll develop initial design concepts. This phase involves sketches, spatial planning, and early visualizations, ensuring that the design responds to both your desires and the site’s potential.

Town Planning Application: At the conclusion of the Schematic Design phase, we will prepare and submit a Town Planning Application if required, based on the design confirmation.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Once the floor plan, and exterior design is approved, I start the design process for the interior walls, joinery, door and window selections, electrical, mechanical systems, and lighting. This includes interior elevations, lighting and electrical plans, building sections, material schedules, appliance schedules, tap and fitting schedules, and door/joinery hardware.

Construction Documentation

Once the concept is approved, I refine the design and prepare detailed documentation. This includes plans, construction details, joinery details, sections with structural engineering and technical specifications required for construction.

Construction Administration

During the construction phase, I manage the project, ensuring the design is implemented as envisioned. I monitor progress, coordinate with contractors, and resolve any issues that may arise.

completion & handover

Once the project is completed, I ensure everything is up to the highest standards before handing it over to you. This phase includes final inspections and a walkthrough to make sure you're fully satisfied with the result.

By choosing Ryan Nace Architecture, you’re partnering with a firm that values collaboration, sustainability, and personalized design. I approach each project with the care and attention it deserves, ensuring that the final result truly reflects your values and lifestyle.
