Vertical House is a personal project to design a house for a small urban infill site, or for minimal footprint in a rural setting. The concept is to keep the footprint small without compromising comfort. The house is built using easy to find materials that are sold in most DIY stores. The house was designed with my wife and I in mind as the clients. By going vertical the house feels more like a treehouse and is meant to invoke a feeling of comfort and security the farther up in the “tree” you go.
Large sliding doors in the kitchen / dining area allow the ground floor to open up to the site.
Using a simple shed roof and only one run of guttering to drain the water off and away from the house.
Most of the activity in our home happens around the dining table. By putting it on the ground floor allow easy access to and from the site. Also included is a small toilet room for easy access from the site and for guests.
The largest room in the house devoted to lounging and media consumption. Hopefully less consumption and more lounging….
The highest and most secure room in the house is dedicated to the master bedroom and ensuite. Meant to evoke the playful feeling of a tree house, and to give one comfort when going to sleep.
